About ShreeJyoti
Free panchang, kundli and muhurat for your own city, in Hindi and English. Here is who makes it and how the numbers are worked out.
What this is
Panchang for your city, a full kundli, shubh muhurat dates, the festival calendar, rashifal, and aarti, chalisa, stotra and katha pages for daily paath. There is also a naam jaap counter.
You pick a city, and every time on the site is worked out for that city. The list has close to three thousand cities in India and sixteen outside it, among them New York, Toronto, London, Dubai, Singapore, Sydney and Nairobi. Outside India the site uses that city's own clock, daylight saving included. An ekadashi kept in Toronto starts at Toronto's sunrise, not Delhi's.
Who makes it
ShreeJyoti is made by a learner and student of astrology and Sanatan Dharma.
The site does the arithmetic and shows it. Where the old texts give more than one rule, it says which rule it follows. What you do with the numbers is your call, or your own astrologer's.
Jaap and paath
The naam jaap page has a mala of 108 beads. Pick a naam, or type your own, and tap once for each chant. You can take a sankalp for a daily number, and the page keeps the count day by day. The count is saved on your phone.
The aarti, chalisa, stotra and katha pages carry the full text in Devanagari, with the roman spelling beside it for anyone who does not read the script. Paath mode keeps the screen on while you read and counts the day's paath. You can write whose name the paath is kept in, and that also stays on your phone.
How the numbers are made
Sunrise is the sunrise your city sees, from its own latitude and longitude. Rahu Kaal in Kochi is worked out from Kochi's sunrise, not Delhi's, and every timing that depends on sunrise follows from that.
On some rules the classical texts differ, so two tools can both be right and still show different times. The methodology page lists each such rule, which reading this site uses, and why. On the kundli page you can open the working behind a graha's strength: the rule, its source, and the steps with the real figures.
