What is kept
Putrada means the giver of children. Couples who wish for a child keep this fast and pray to Lord Vishnu. It is also called Pavitra Ekadashi. There are two Putrada Ekadashis in a year: this one in Shravan and one in Pausha. Like every ekadashi it is kept for Lord Vishnu: no rice or grains, and the fast is broken the next day, on Dwadashi, at the parana time given on this page.
