What is kept
Shattila means six uses of til. On this day til is used in six ways: in the bath water, as a paste, in the havan, in the water offered, in the food, and in daan. Like every ekadashi it is kept for Lord Vishnu: no rice or grains, and the fast is broken the next day, on Dwadashi, at the parana time given on this page.
