What is kept
The ekadashi of the amla tree, which is worshipped today as the home of Lord Vishnu. People water the tree, go round it and sit under it for the puja. In Kashi it is Rangbhari Ekadashi, when Holi begins with colours at the Kashi Vishwanath temple. Like every ekadashi it is kept for Lord Vishnu: no rice or grains, and the fast is broken the next day, on Dwadashi, at the parana time given on this page.
