What is kept
Akshaya means "that which never runs out". People believe that what is started, bought or given today keeps growing, so it is a favourite day to buy gold, start a business, move into a new home, and give daan. It is one of the few days of the year taken as good for a wedding without looking for a muhurat. Parashuram Jayanti falls on the same day.
