What is kept
Varuthini means the one that protects, like armour. Giving daan is a big part of this ekadashi: food, water and til are given to the needy. Like every ekadashi it is kept for Lord Vishnu: no rice or grains, and the fast is broken the next day, on Dwadashi, at the parana time given on this page.
