What is kept
Dev Uthani Ekadashi, the day Lord Vishnu wakes after four months of sleep, and Chaturmas ends. Homes are cleaned, a mandap of sugarcane is made, and Vishnu is woken with bells and songs. Tulsi Vivah, the wedding of Tulsi and Shaligram, is done on this day or the next, and the wedding season begins. It is also called Prabodhini Ekadashi. Like every ekadashi it is kept for Lord Vishnu: no rice or grains, and the fast is broken the next day, on Dwadashi, at the parana time given on this page.
