What is kept
The day after Diwali. It remembers Shri Krishna lifting Govardhan hill on one finger to shelter the people of Braj from heavy rain. In many homes a small Govardhan is made from cow dung in the courtyard and worshipped. Temples offer Annakut, a mountain of many dishes, to Krishna. In Gujarat the new year begins on this day.
